逸yì民mín，伯bó夷yí，叔shū齐qí，虞yú仲zhòng，夷yí逸yì，朱zhū张zhāng，柳liǔ下xià惠huì，少shào连lián。子zǐ曰yuē，不bú降jiàng其qí志zhì，不bù辱rǔ其qí身shēn，伯bó夷yí叔shū齐qí与yú。谓wèi柳liǔ下xià惠huì，少shào连lián，降jiàng志zhì辱rǔ身shēn矣yǐ。言yán中zhòng伦lún，行xíng中zhòng虑lǜ，其qí斯sī而ér已yǐ矣yǐ。谓wèi虞yú仲zhòng，夷yí逸yì，隐yǐn居jū放fàng言yán，身shēn中zhòng清qīng，废fèi中zhòng权quán。我wǒ则zé异yì于yú是shì，无wú可kě无wú不bù可kě。

Modern Chinese Guide

避世的隐士有伯夷、叔齐、虞仲、夷逸、朱张、柳下惠、少连。孔子说：不降低自己的志向，不辱没自己的身份，大概就是伯夷、叔齐吧。他评论柳下惠、少连说：他们降低了志向，辱没了身份，但言语合乎伦理，行为合乎人心，也不过如此罢了。他评论虞仲、夷逸说：他们避世隐居，放言不羁，立身清白，弃官合乎权变。我却同这些人都不一样，没有什么一定要这样，也没有什么一定不这样。

1. The men who have retired to privacy from the world have been Po-i, Shu-ch'i, Yu-chung, I-yi, Chu-chang, Hui of Liu-hsia, and Shao-lien. 2. The Master said, "Refusing to surrender their wills, or to submit to any taint in their persons;—such, I think, were Po-i and Shu-ch'i. 3.
