阳yáng货huò欲yù见jiàn孔kǒng子zǐ，孔kǒng子zǐ不bú见jiàn，归kuì孔kǒng子zǐ豚tún。孔kǒng子zǐ时shí其qí亡wú也yě，而ér往wǎng拜bài之zhī，遇yù诸zhū涂tú。谓wèi孔kǒng子zǐ曰yuē，来lái，予yú与yǔ尔ěr言yán。曰yuē，怀huái其qí宝bǎo而ér迷mí其qí邦bāng，可kě谓wèi仁rén乎hū。曰yuē，不bù可kě。好hào从cóng事shì而ér亟qì失shī时shí，可kě谓wèi知zhì乎hū。曰yuē，不bù可kě。日rì月yuè逝shì矣yǐ，岁suì不bù我wǒ与yǔ。孔kǒng子zǐ曰yuē，诺nuò，吾wú将jiāng仕shì矣yǐ。

Modern Chinese Guide

阳货想让孔子去拜见他，孔子不去见，他便送给孔子一只熟乳猪。孔子趁他不在家的时候，前去回拜他，不料在路上遇见了他。阳货对孔子说：来，我有话对你说。他说：怀藏着才德却听任国家迷乱，这可以叫作仁吗？孔子答：不可以。阳货说：喜欢做官从政却屡次错过时机，这可以叫作智吗？孔子答：不可以。阳货说：时光一天天过去了，岁月是不等人的啊。孔子说：好吧，我将要出来做官了。

1. Yang Ho wished to see Confucius, but Confucius would not go to see him. On this, he sent a present of a pig to Confucius, who, having chosen a time when Ho was not at home, went to pay his respects for the gift. He met him, however, on the way. 2.
